Leaving Venice was super sad as every minute I spent there i felt like i was living a fairytale. But, life as a backpacker means you have to keep on moving! This time we were heading to another part of Italy called Trieste. Not one of our places specifically on our route however a good midpoint between Venice and our next location. Since we were still very new in this lifestyle, Ben hadn’t yet got used to sitting on trains for long times so we made sure to split journeys up as much as possible. Some people say three months would be quite a while however it allowed us to take our time and do stop off’s like Trieste in order to break up long train journeys.
On the 15th of February we waved bye bye to Venice, swearing to return one day. We stayed at the Hotello Hostel which was around £14 a night. We weren’t too fussy about where we stayed as obviously it was mainly for a rest. We did decide to stay there two nights as a rest day was definitely in need.
We had a little walk next to the sea, however it was so windy…I thought I was going to be blown away! A beautiful sunset greeted us on return to our hostel, which we enjoyed from the balcony of our room. We had a cheeky kebab and then went to a pub called ‘King pub’ where we did order even more food because the picture on the menu looked too good! Oops!
16th February –
Super stuffed, even the next day, we lazed about all day. This is so important when travelling at such a quick pace as you can burn out so easy and then the experience is ruined. We lounged around, snacking and watching Netflix before packing our stuff up ready to move on again tomorrow.
I had never heard of Trieste before our little stop off and I don’t think it’s that popular among tourists. If you’re wanting a little Italian trip by the sea but without the tourism, it’s definitely a place to go.
