Fancy Nancy

Okay so we didn’t actually stay long here at all, in fact it was a one night lay over to break up a journey. However, oh boy do i have a story to tell!

After our little trip to luxembourg on the 2nd of February we headed to Nancy. We had found a decent apartment for the night on booking.com and were both in need of some rest. We arrived there late at night, tired, cold and hungry. About a 20 minute walk from the station was the address we were given on booking.com. We were told to ring them when we were outside and then we would be given check in details. 5 calls later they finally answered. Not only that but the lady not speak english at all. After a bit of talking (or attempting to) we found that we were actually at a different address around the other side of the block? So off we went, 10 minutes around the block to the new address. There we called again, this was when she told us that we now needed to go back to the old address to get the key with a code she had given us. So back we went, getting more frustrated by the second. We got the key (thank god) and once again walked to the new address. Finally the door opened, HURRAY! However, it was not over yet. We had a list of instructions to follow to where we would be staying…basically a treasure map. Through a door, up some stairs, turn, another door, walk across an outside balcony, to another door, and then a door for our accommodation. With massive backpacks on, this was not a fun experience.

At last we got there, simply happy to be somewhere with a bed. I won’t lie, it wasn’t amazing…our room was separated to the shared kitchen by a curtain. Yep, a curtain. Privacy 10/10. At this point, we didn’t really care…we simply made ourselves a mugshot for tea(our diet at this point) and got in bed. Sleep took us swiftly.

3rd February 2025

Awakening in our lovely den of a house, we got up, got ready and I, out of spite, stole some unopened cereal in the cupboard. Deserved after the emotional turmoil from last night. We left quite swiftly, glad it was over, and headed towards Nancy station. We had a little wander around since we had time and from what we saw, it was a pretty place. Personally i love the French architecture and the feel of France so i was in my element. We sat for a little bit, just enjoying the view before we made our way to get the train. We were very early so of course a maccies stop was needed. Quite possibly the worst smelling maccies ever but, food is food when travelling.

We sat on the station floor, watching the board to find out what platform we would need to be on while Ben decided to give a pigeon some of his croissant. Bad idea. Soon we had a whole flock around us. French pigeons are weird, they all either had one leg or stubby feet…odd.

When the time finally arrived we boarded the train to head to Bern, Switzerland.
