On the 20th of February we left Bled to set sail to Zagreb, another lay over spot before we were heading to Split, Croatia.
This journey was painful.
We got to the station decently early so sat down at Kava bar and had a drink each. When it got to a few minutes till our train we went to the platform. Only to find out it was basically an hour delayed. Not only was this annoying but this meant we missed our connecting train to Split. Great.
There were two people also sat there and they overheard us talking about the delay and they both turned to each other, realising their travel day was also taking a turn for the worst. This is where we met Cam and Scarlett. Both our age and travelling before they begun Uni. It was so nice to meet english people and Ben loved being able to talk cars to Cam. Our friendship soon formed and when our train eventually came we all sat together. We exchanged socials, made a groupchat and then said goodbye when they got off to head to Rjeka.
The trains in Slovenia were definitely the most confusing as they would turn around, switch, change and often stop out of nowhere. Honestly i was glad to be out of the country. It felt like God almost pitied us as when we finally got the train which would take us to Split, after a million changes, we had the most bougie train yet. It had little compartments which reminded me of the hogwarts express, all that was missing was a woman saying ‘anything from the trolley!’ We got to Zagreb and had quite a walk to our hostel, Hostel Bureau which was £13 a night. As it turns out, our day was about to get much more uncomfortable. Ben decided to try to stay up in hope he would sleep on the train to Split, however i ended up staying up anyway due to feeling so uncomfortable. In our dorm, the beds were sort of sticking out in the middle of the room and I much prefer them against the wall. There was only us two and an old man in our room, which is fine except for the fact he was staring me down as I made my top bunk bed. In the night, all i could feel was his eyes on me and it was just so unsettling.
In the morning we were so glad to be leaving, and prayed for a better travel day than the one before.
